Tactical Haptics to Bring ‘Production-Ready’ Haptic VR Controllers to GDC 2019

Tactical Haptics was operating on a distinctive haptic controller layout since its founding in 2013.  While we have seen a range of prototypes through time, the company is preparing to reveal what it requires a”production-ready” variant of its Reactive Grip Virtual Reality controller, set to launch later this month at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, California.

Reactive Grip is a haptic controller which is based on third-party tracking standards like Oculus Touch, Steam Virtual Reality monitoring, and OptiTrak.  To humor, Tactical Haptics lately pivoted in the consumer space to concentrate on Virtual Reality location-based entertainment (LBE) and coaching, so rather than appearing at their regular South Hall booth this season, the company will be taking appointments at a meeting area (N2408) from the North Hall.

What is unique about Reactive Grip however is it provides a kind of touch responses that does not solely rely on buzzing haptic engines just like you find in traditional Virtual Reality motion controllers.

Tactical Haptics’ Reactive Grip was in a continuous state of iteration because the company’s founding six decades back.  Having already assembled exactly what the company calls the minimal workable product (MVP) prototype of its haptic controller, in addition to a shape-shifting prototype which may reconfigure into several places employing unmanned sockets, the company is currently moving one step ahead towards full production with its’production-ready’ version.

The newest controller layout is said to also offer you comparable reconfigurable magnetic sockets into the prototype we found in last year’s CES, but this may come as a modular addition along with modular third party monitoring attachments for Oculus Touch, Windows Virtual Reality controllers, Vive Tracker, and OptiTrak.

“The production design can be easier and more modular, enabling users to configure the controllers without bark sockets (used to create fresh peripherals on the fly) and also to utilize the controllers in the PC Virtual Reality ecosystem of the selection. 

So while our hopes for a consumer edition of Reactive Grip are essentially dashed from the near-term together with all the company’s new business focus, it is a good idea to find these Virtual Reality leaders carrying to locate a house in LBE since the hype around the consumer Virtual Reality market has cooled off because the first consumer headset launching in 2016.
